A Velvet Elk Holiday Message:

On this decidedly snowless Christmas, we’d like to share this throwback poster from our 1985 Christmas Variety Hour Special on NBC. Apparently, unbeknownst to the Velvet Elk Brass, NBC had not actually aired the special live as we had thought. In hindsight, this was probably a good thing, as our CEO Tom Baker, was doing shots of egg nog all morning and had made the ill-fated decision to strip naked during Jeff Tweedy’s acoustic rendition of “It Came Upon a Midnight Star”. In a brilliant stroke of face-saving, Jesse Malin also stripped down to join the streaking CEO, leaving Don DiLego and NBC’s Frosty the Snowman to do the dramatic Nativity Scene re-enactment, with the then passed out Tom Baker as baby Jesus.
Fortunately, all that remains of the legendary show is this promotional poster, as NBC had informed us later of an “editing room fire” that apparently destroyed the video tape.
From all of us at Velvet Elk Records, we wish you a streak-free, and very Happy Holidays!!!
