Bio

The Los Angeles based, power-pop garage band, OSO My Brain (Other Side of My Brain) is a new group whose players bring their illustrious punk and indie rock history into the present, smudging their underground credibility and pop sensibility, along with the contradictions of arrested development and maturity, into a fresh new sound.

Singer/Guitarist/Writer Holly Ramos grew up in Manhattan and fronted the NYC girl-group-meets-punk band Fur. Flipside magazine said of their Sympathy for the Record Industry debut single, “The fact that Fur is not bigger than God herself is a rock tragedy.” Ramos has toured throughout America and Europe, hitting all the historic venues of the past from CBGBs to London’s Astoria Theatre. A few favorite shows include performing with Joey Ramone and Jayne County at Coney Island High, and opening for The Cult at Irving Plaza in NY and The Misfits in London. Additionally, Holly acted in the avant-garde Antony and the Johnsons’ Blacklips Performance Cult.

Ramos and recording artist Jesse Malin have been writing partners since their teens. Their numerous compositions include “Cigarettes and Violets” on Malin’s solo debut, The Fine Art of Self Destruction, and every album since, including “Chemical Heart” and “Grey Skies Look So Blue” on his latest, Sunset Kids, produced by Lucinda Williams.

Singer/Bassist/Writer Norwood Cheek started on the North Carolina music scene in 9th grade, since releasing 11 records, mainly by The Cardinal Family Singers. You can hear Norwood’s music in many films, including Marvel’s Ant-Man and Bring It On. He is also known for directing music videos for more than 100 bands including Superchunk, She & Him, and the Donnas. His work with Squirrel Nut Zippers earned him a gold record.

Drummer David Avery, a SoCal native, has been banging, touring, and recording for decades. He was asked to join the band after Holly noticed that he had a framed 45 of Elvis Costello’s Alison on his wall. The band met in L.A. through their common denominator, public school.

On stage, there’s a strong presence, the alchemy of rich musical histories, melodic and messy rock n’ roll, and occasionally moments of completely beautiful crafting and fleeting perfection.

Recorded on 24 track at Pierre de Reeder’s (from Rilo Kiley) 64 Sound in Highland Park.

Produced by Los Angeles based Producer/Composer Jess Stroup, whose work also includes scoring films and television, including Camp X-Ray starring Kristen Stewart and Cardboard Boxer, starring Macy Gray and Terrence Howard.
