About the Album

“I was in junior high school.  I didn’t know about Nietzsche.  It was a crazy time to come of age.  Regan was in the White House, Dallas was on TV, we were living with the nuclear arms race, and war in Central America— it was a time to be wild.”  – Jesse Malin

On October 22, New York hardcore pioneers Heart Attack will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a reissue of the very first New York hardcore release, God Is Dead. Recorded in Queens and originally released in 1981 on the Damaged Goods fanzine label, the highly collectable and often bootlegged 7” had a limited pressing.  This is the first official reissue.

Jesse Malin, who founded Heart Attack when he was 12 years old, will be reissuing the anniversary 7” of God Is Dead on Velvet Elk, the label he co-founded with Don DiLego.  The special pressing will include the original insert and lyric sheet, plus additional photos.   Hear God is Dead and preorder the EP here.
