About the Album
New York, NY – Devoted Lower East Side garage rock and Americana collective, Diane and The Gentle Men will release their full-length album, The White Sea, on April 17th via Velvet Elk Records. The LP is comprised of ten original tracks penned by Diane Gentile and features production by Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate), Jesse Malin, and Matt Basile. “Motorcycle” and “Perfect People” have both been played in heavy rotation and dubbed, “Coolest Song In The World” by Steven Van Zandt for his SiriusXM channel, Little Steven’s Underground Garage.
Upon the completion of recordingThe White Sea and its subsequent scheduled release in 2018, Diane embarked to Italy for a short run of dates. Traveling by car, Diane was riding in the front passenger seat when a random large rock ricocheted off of the highway through the windshield and into Diane’s face, causing a full maxillofacial break. It gravely crushed the floor of her face and all of the bones and severely damaged her eye. She spent a month in the Maggiore Trauma Center in Bologna. Back in New York City, she underwent more surgeries.
To keep her spirits up friends suggested she release Little Things, a four song EP. Diane worked again with director Dave Stekert who filmed “Little Things” the video, that got dubbed one of the “10 Best Country and Americana Songs to Hear Now,” by Rolling Stone.com: “the title track from Diane & the Gentle Men’s Little ThingsEP is a propulsive poprocker built for open roads and unbroken horizons. The song shines its spotlight on front woman Diane Gentile…”
Diane and The Gentle Men have been on bills with T ommy Stinson, Laura Cantrell, Alejandro Escovedo, Steve Wynn. Diane performed at City Winery for sold out T-Rex Benefit shows with the likes of Angela McCluskey and Suzanne Vega, Clem Burke (Blondie), Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith), as well as appearing on stage for the Suicide Tribute that included a stellar array of performers including Eugene Hutzagova (Gogol Bordello), Ric Ocasek and others.

“The White Sea features 10 Gentile originals and boasts rich production, melodic choruses and a healthy dose of 1960s garage rock/power pop influences…With strong lyrics and vocals, and a diverse collection of tunes, The White Sea easily made the wait worthwhile for fans.”– Blinded by Sound
“What if the Dream Syndicate was fronted by a woman? If imaginatively crafted, darkly bristling rock anthems with layers of guitars and keys and a distinctively downtown, old-school New York ambience are your thing, this is your jam.” – New York Music Daily
a vibrant collection of songs about life, love, and heartbreak that deftly traverse and meld the two beloved Rock sub-genres of Americana and Alternative / Indie into a mesmerizing mixture of distinctly original musical creations…Close your eyes and imagine a female voice that effortlessly sounds like a cross between the country rocking of Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt and the punkish new wave attitude laced singing of Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde and you’ll get a glimpse of the breadth of Gentile’s prodigious talent. “ – Americana Highways
“Pain, perseverance and the full scope of life flows through The White Sea as Diane and the Gentle Man use adversity to create their art.” – Glide Magazine
